The prisons in Syria are inaccessible to independent observers and moralizers and the testimonies of those who have been released and survived are the only available source to learn about and document the conditions in the prisons and the violations that take place there.

​

Actual Size is an installation that is spread in different places and corners around Hamburg, it outlines the actual amount of space that each detainee has to spend in Syrian prisons and the sizes of the rooms that the detainees are held inside, sometimes more than one detainee are held in one small room.

(The sizes and shapes of the rooms are determined according to the testimonies of

former Syrian prisoners I’ve interviewed.)
